Marvel coming to Disney Parks?

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger told shareholders attending an annual meeting that the company has had a number of discussions and done preliminary design work that it hopes will one day lead to Marvel characters appearing, as Disney's other familiar faces do, in the theme parks.

"We haven't announced anything yet," Iger said Tuesday, in response to a question posed by a shareholder at the company's annual meeting in Kansas City, Mo. "But we're working on some concepts."

This comes days after Universal Studios Orlando showed they have no intention of giving up its Marvel characters when they reopened a refurbished Amazing Adventures of Spiderman attraction, a ride they refurbished "because they could." Sounds like an attempt to keep the characters away from Disney Parks.

Hopefully Disney can find a way to cash in on their investment in Marvel for the Parks.

Walt Disney Company launches Heroes Work Here program

Did you hear? We’re looking for military heroes to join the team. Disney President and CEO Bob Iger just announced a new company-wide initiative to hire, train and support returning veterans called Heroes Work Here. It’s exciting news and we’ve got the details. Disney will:
  • Provide at least 1,000 jobs, career opportunities for returning U.S. veterans over the next three years.
  • Support military families, veterans transitioning into civilian life.
  • Launch a national public awareness campaign to encourage job opportunities for veterans.
So, what job opportunities are we talking about? They’ll run the gamut from internships to leadership roles and span all segments of The Walt Disney Company. To support this effort, the company will host career fairs and participate in events showcasing job opportunities for returning military personnel.
Disney will also invest in select non-profit organizations that provide training and other support services for veterans, while Disney VoluntEARS will lend their time and talents to the effort through service projects with veterans’ organizations across the country.
Also, be sure and keep an eye out for some of the talented veterans already employed at Disney in TV spots to encourage other companies to create opportunities for returning military personnel. To learn more about Heroes Work Here, visit the Disney Careers website.

Walt featuring Ryan Gosling

A fake movie poster created by French artist Pascal Witaszek featuring Ryan Gosling as Walt Disney and directed by Ron Howard. This wonderful poster features Gosling as Walt traveling by train. While this is not a real movie, it would probably be something worth seeing, and maybe spark enough interest to get Disney to make a real Walt biopic.

This imaginary film also features Michelle Williams, presumably as Walt's wife Lillian, Ewen McGregor, Stellen Skarsgard, Marion Cotillard, and Matthew Fox.

Johnny Depp as Tonto

In this first pic from Disney's upcoming Lone Ranger, we get the first look at Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger's faithful sidekick Tonto, also Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger.
The movie is scheduled for release May 31st, 2013.

Legendary Disney songwriter Robert Sherman has passed away

Jeffery Sherman has announced on his Facebook page the passing of his father, legendary Disney songwriter, Robert Sherman.

My dad, Robert B. Sherman, passed away tonight in London. He went peacefully after months of truly valiantly fending off death. He loved life and his dear heart finally slowed to a stop when he could fight no more.

May he rest in peace with Uncle Walt.
It's a great big beautiful tomorrow

Photo report: Columbia in drydock

These are a few cool pictures we got during our latest visit to Disneyland of the Columbia in drydock. They had some tarps up around Fowler Landing, but an inquisitive person could easily get some cool pics.

Here's a good look at the back of the ship, visible are the (SPOILER ALERT!) propellers and the track we don't know it runs on.

Here is the front of the ship
