Disney trying to get Avengers in the parks

Disney Chairman of Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs has said he intends to bring the Avengers to Disneyland Resort and other parks outside the US. While Disney cannot use Marvel characters in its Orlando parks because of licensing contracts with Universal Studios in Orlando, they have no such restrictions in Anaheim because Universal let their contract expire at its Hollywood park.

Staggs has said recently that not only had Disney been working on getting the Avengers into the parks, but that "work has only intensified given the film's great success."

Imagineers are working on how to get the Marvel characters into the parks. "The setting has to be right, the story has to be right, and that takes a fair amount of time," Staggs said.

Sounds like it will be some time before we see the Stark Expo at Disneyland, but at least it's now been confirmed that they are working on it. The question is: where in Disneyland or even California Adventure does theming based on the Avengers fit? Even if there was an area in Disneyland Park that an Avengers theme could make sense, the park is basically capped out on space. Even if they completely redid the Big Thunder Ranch/Arena area, would super heroes really fit in next to Frontierland and Rivers of America? And in California Adventure, the only real space could be if they swapped out A Bugs Land, which is too small, or maybe the back area of Hollywood Land where Monsters Inc and Muppetvision are, again maybe too small for an adequate representation of the Marvel universe.

So where could they go? Third gate anyone? Rumors have been flying for year about a third park in Anaheim. With the success of the Avengers and Marvel films in general, what better theme to create a third park? And there is plenty of land with the Toy Story parking lot on Harbor Blvd. so once they get their second parking structure build on the parking lot south of Downtown Disney, we hope we can see another of Disney's parking lots turned into a park, this one featuring Iron Man, the Hulk, maybe even Spiderman and the X-Men.

Avengerail debuts at Disney World

In preparation for the upcoming Marvel Studios film, The Avengers, the Avengerail recently debuted at Walt Disney World. Unlike the Tronorail, this one runs on the Magic Kingdom line. According to Inside the Magic, the Avengerail cannot run on the Epcot line for legal reasons, possibly licensing issues with Marvel character-based attractions inside a Disney park, since the Magic Kingdom line doesn't actually enter the Magic Kingdom.

Could this be what CEO Bob Iger was referring to a few weeks ago when he mentioned Marvel coming to Disney Parks?

Pretty cool, but wouldn't mind seeing something like this at the Disneyland Resort.

Marvel coming to Disney Parks?

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger told shareholders attending an annual meeting that the company has had a number of discussions and done preliminary design work that it hopes will one day lead to Marvel characters appearing, as Disney's other familiar faces do, in the theme parks.

"We haven't announced anything yet," Iger said Tuesday, in response to a question posed by a shareholder at the company's annual meeting in Kansas City, Mo. "But we're working on some concepts."

This comes days after Universal Studios Orlando showed they have no intention of giving up its Marvel characters when they reopened a refurbished Amazing Adventures of Spiderman attraction, a ride they refurbished "because they could." Sounds like an attempt to keep the characters away from Disney Parks.

Hopefully Disney can find a way to cash in on their investment in Marvel for the Parks.

Avengers Super Bowl commercial teaser

Marvel recently held a twitter chat with a couple members of the Avengers cast and Director Joss Whedon. Afterwards, they released this teaser for the Avengers Super Bowl commercial. It's very short but very cool.

Avengers from POV of Captain America

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Joss Whedon revealed that The Avengers problem was that there are so many major characters and personalities involved, stating earlier the film had, "too many goddamn characters." His solution? While all the characters will have a "mostly equal share" of the film, The Avengers will be seen from Steve Rogers's perspective "since he is the one that just woke up and sees this weird ass world."
Steve Rogers himself, Chris Evans, in an earlier interview with GQ magazine, talked about how his character is the grounded one who helps keep the others in line.
"When you have these giant personalities and egos, there need to be someone to bring them back down and reminds that this is a team, not the individual show."
